Pasadena is a well-established community with many fine churches. Yet, as in most of southern California, there are still many more people who do not attend any church than those who do. One needs to ask the question, “What would it take to connect with these people?” We believed that the best way to connect with these people was by starting a new church that addressed their needs and desires and was a church to which they can relate. That is the reason we started Foothills Community Church.
Since our beginning on Easter of 1997, we have been a church that is utilizing a non-traditional model. We are different, not just for the sake of being different, but for the purpose of offering people a different choice. Many of the people who do not attend church have special needs and interests that are not being met in a traditional church. Foothills Community Church has a primary focus of reaching the hearts of these people.
It is also important to understand that planting one church is not the only desired end result. We have planted a church that plans on reproducing itself by planting other churches throughout the greater San Gabriel Valley.
Although Pasadena is a well-established community, it is also a changing community, ethnically and with new generations moving into the area. We desire to be responsive to the needs these changes bring. This means that we desire to be a “new” church in every aspect; including new approaches to the people we seek to reach.
